Ernestine Anderson Jazz music legend faces foreclosure
Music icon Ernestine Anderson, almost 80 years old, joins the ranks of many thousands of people forced into foreclosure, unable to make the mortgage payments on her home. The four-time Grammy nominee, known for her smoky-voiced jazz stylings, is the subject of a behind-the-scenes drive to help her out of dire financial straits.
A mortgage company in California has put Anderson home in foreclosure. Anderson has all major assets for sale. The cutoff date for the $45,000 needed to bring her mortgage current is June 30, a critical date before the final wheels start to turn. The home will be sold July 11.
A fund has been set up for donations at any branch of Bank of America Washington State, The Ernestine Anderson Fund.
She is such an icon in this community in terms of her artistry and the concerts she has provided here at no cost, all for the purpose of raising money for others,“She has received no money at all from these endeavors, labors of love. So it is her time now. I feel it is important for all of us to respond back to her, to help her get out of this financial situation.
